According to The Herald News, a cooking fire spread smoke through a McDonald’s Restaurant on Monday evening in Fall River. The accident caused the store to close. Firefighters arrived at 6:30 pm and saw flames spouting from the vent system on the roof.
“It appears to have started in the fryolater area,” Fire Capt. Maurice Reney said. “We’re not sure if it started in the fryer or in the duct work right above it. For some reason, the extinguishment system in place did not deploy. We are still trying to determine why.”
Firefighters arrived to find employees and customers outside the building. Before leaving the restaurant, several employees used fire extinguishers to slow and contain the fire. However, their efforts couldn’t stop the damages to the building. “The restaurant was damaged in the process of extinguishing the fire,” Reney said. “Firefighters had to tear down the ceiling to check for hot spots.”
